Listening to poems while drinking wine… what else ?

Listening to poems while drinking wine… what else ?

There was magic in the air at Wines & Poems last Thursday !

Matthieu and I had special Words’Alchemy under the stars last Thursday… We got inspired by beautiful poems and wonderful wines for the PSE Charity: For a Child's Smile Hong-Kong.

Thank you Estelle for her warm welcome and Evelyne for the organisation and of course thank you to my partner in crime: Matthieu @sauves par le kong

Thank also for our wonderful sponsors Claire @Food Origin and Charles and Valentin @Vines & Terroirs.

PSE has been working to save children from the dumps in Cambodia for the past 20 years... it’s a great charity and I strongly advise you to learn more about it on their website www.pse.ong

The wines tasted:

  • Pouilly Fumé

  • Domaine Michel Redde et fils

  • Barre à Mine 2018

A bright pale yellow. A very mineral nose of pure flint with lemony and floral notes. Similar spectrum of aromas on the palate with a very long mineral finish with the freshness of citrus fruits. This is a powerful wine, balanced and vibrant. A unique expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Moulis en Medoc

  • Chateau Chasse Spleen

  • Héritage 2016

A beautiful rubis colour in the glass. The first aromas are focussed on black fruits (blackcurrant and blackberry) followed by more complex notes of vanilla and toast and evolving towards more animal notes (Parma ham). The palate is broad and powerful with forrest floor notes and sweet spice while retaining a real freshness. It still needs a few years to fully express those tertiary notes and to soften the tannins and it will be perfect to chase away the spleen !

  • DOCG Sfozato de Vatellina

  • Tenuta Scerscé

  • Infinito 2015

A pale and bright garnet in the glass. An intense bouquet of aromas reminiscent of warm floral notes (violet and iris) and warm sweet spice (cinnamon and pink pepper) complimented by alcohol marinated plums and cherries. you can almost smell the velvet in this wine ! On the palate, it is powerful and round, warm and velvety. It is like being wrapped in a cashmere blanket, sitting by the fire in a winter night. A pleasure that you never want to end !

  • Touraine Amboise

  • Domaine Plou & Fils

  • Le Paradis 2016

A beautiful golden hue announcing a semi-sweet wine. The aromas evoke exotic fruits, mandarin and honey. On the palate, the softness is fully there but balanced by a touch of acidity that gives the necessary freshness to this wine and guaranties the perfect balance. We are close to heaven.
